Targeted at individuals and communities on low incomes throughout rural Derbyshire.

Work to address low incomes, isolation and powerlessness.

Aimed to develop proposals such as the independent Housing Aid Service, initiatives to increase benefits take-up, innovative information services and economic regeneration programmes.

Worked closely with the Peak District Rural Deprivation Forum and Derbyshire County Council in the development of an anti-poverty strategy which recognises rural issues.

Consultations with Parish Councils on local perspectives.

Funding:

Grant from National Lottery Charities Board to allow work with individuals and communities affected by low income and isolation, and to develop new information services and networks.

Peak District Rural Deprivation Forum

Forum set up in 1992 to raise awareness of poverty / multiple deprivation in the Peak District and to challenge perceptions of the ‘rural idyll’.

A lot of research has been carried out on behalf of the Forum.

Transport

The Rural Transport Development Project

Information concerning existing transport provision has been collected for all villages in the area.

The main objectives are to assess existing transport provision and to understand transport needs of isolated communities within the Staffordshire/Derbyshire area. In addition, to promote and develop local public transport services to meet these needs.
