Historic Somersal Hall hosts village Fete

Somersal Hall, the historic Grade 1 listed former home of the Fitzherbert family is this years’ venue for the 2008 Somersal Herbert fete.  The event is taking place on Saturday 7th June between 2 and 5pm, when the beautiful gardens will be filled with many stalls and attractions of interest to both children and adults alike.  Returning this year, by popular request, will be Jack with his flying teddies (do bring your teddies for the ride of his life!), there will also be pony rides and a bouncy castle, together with many stalls to help keep the children entertained.  Numerous side shows including a traditional coconut shy, the popular penalty shoot-out, an old style skittles alley and a tombola to name just a few, will give visitors a chance to try their hand at winning a prize.  There will also be plants for sale, locally made produce and home made cakes.

Visitors will be entertained during the afternoon by Rob Spalton and his fellow musicians, some of whom recently staged the highly successful Charity Jazz Night in the Parish Rooms at Somersal Herbert as the Blue Skies Trio.  Home made cakes and teas will be served on the lawns and there will also be a barbecue and a licensed bar available throughout the afternoon.

The event, which raises funds for both St Peter’s Church in the village and the Parish Rooms, was virtually washed out last year by the wet weather.  This year the organisers are hoping for a lovely sunny day, but should it rain, the event will most definitely still go ahead under large marquees!

Entry is free and road signs will direct visitors to parking which will be available immediately outside the hall.
