East Wing Facade
Designed by the early 18th C. Scottish architect James Gibbs - designer of the church of St Martins-In-The-Field in London

Stanshope Hall - originally built in the 16th Century and one time home to Michael Jackson, quartermaster to Oliver Cromwell. The house has seen and experienced much and has been renovated both in the 18th and 19th Centuries.

Today the Hall is the family home of Nick and Naomi who use part of their splendid house for guests, where they offer en suite bed and breakfast accommodation with a difference!

The Hall is in the quiet hamlet of Stanshope on the Staffordshire/Derbyshire border, between the picturesque villages of Ilam and Alstonefield, near Milldale and Dovedale, amongst some of the most beautiful countryside in England.

Don't be fooled by its austere puritan Derbyshire frontage - for within lies a feast of colour and detail! Each guest bedroom and public room has been decorated with tastefully painted wall murals and designs by local artists, with period furniture to suit the mood of each room.

The house has 3 double guest bedrooms and a guest drawing room and dining room.

All rooms have en suite facilities, and are all painstakingly decorated with hand painted wall murals and details.

Each room is furnished to suite the decoration, and the attention to detail must be seen to believed - the dining room ceiling is hand painted to match the intricate details on the carpet.

Drawing Room

All bedrooms have colour televisions and video players (there is a wide selection of videos for rent if the weather closes in!), along with telephone and tea/coffee making facilities.

The house is fully centrally heated and a outside there is a lovely garden with extensive views of the surrounding countryside.

We regret that smoking is not allowed in the bedrooms, but is allowed in the Drawing Room (with permission of other guests.)

Meals

A full English or Continental breakfast is included in the room rate.

For those who wish to book dinner, it is a three course meal with a choice at each course, and coffee or tea by the drawing room fire to finish. Dinner is 21 UK pounds per person.

The Hall specialises in uncomplicated cooking, using imaginative recipes and local free range produce, and can cater for vegetarians.
When possible fruit and vegetables are from its own kitchen garden.

The Hall has a residents and restaurant licence, so alcoholic drinks are available. The Hall also maintains an interesting wine list.
